Immunizations for HIV-infected adults: indications, timing, and response.
نویسنده
چکیده
Vaccines routinely recommended for HIV-infected adults include those for influenza, hepatitis A virus, hepatitis B virus, pneumococcal infection, and tetanus. Responses to vaccination may be affected by CD4+ cell count and viral load. A number of live vaccines are contraindicated in the HIV-infected population. This article summarizes a presentation on immunization in HIV-infected adults made by David H. Spach, MD, at the 9th Annual Ryan White CARE Act Clinical Update in Washington, DC, in August 2006. The original presentation is available as a Webcast at www.iasusa.org.

Urine methyl malonic acid levels in HIV-infected adults with peripheral neuropathy
Background: Cobalamin deficiency and peripheral neuropathy (PN) are commonly seen in HIV-infected adults. The level of urine methylmalonic acid (UMMA), a reliable indicator of tissue cobalamin status, was determined in HIV infected subjects with and without PN to establish this association. Methods: One hundred and ninety-eight (198) consenting HIV infected subjects with and without PN were rec...
متن کاملTiming of HAART Defines the Integrity of Memory B Cells and the Longevity of Humoral Responses in HIV-1 Vertically-Infected Children
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY. HIV infection induces a progressive decline in immune function that affects not only T-cell but also B-cell activities, including the progressive decline in memory B cells, markedly elevated serum immunoglobulin levels, impaired responsiveness to routine immunizations, and loss of specific antibodies previously generated. Treatment of adults with highly active antiretrovir...
متن کاملImmune Response to Standard Hepatitis B Vaccination in HIV-Infected Patients
Background: Due to their similar routes of transmission, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) co-infection occurs considerably. HBV infection progresses more rapidly in HIV-infected patients. Therefore, HBV vaccination of all non-immune HIV infected patients is recommended. On the other hand, HIV-infected subjects have suboptimal responses to HBV vaccine. In this study...
متن کاملNeutralizing activity and cellular immune responses induced in mice after immunization with apoptotic HIV-1/murine leukemia virus infected cells.
Dendritic cells present microbial antigens to T cells after uptake of apoptotic vesicles from infected cells. We previously reported that immunizations with apoptotic HIV-1/murine leukemia virus (MuLV) infected cells lead to induction of both cellular and humoral immune responses as well as resistance to mucosal challenge with live HIV-1/MuLV infected cells. Here we extended those studies and i...
متن کاملImmunoglobulin G (IgG) subclass distribution and IgG1 avidity of antibodies in human immunodeficiency virus-infected individuals after revaccination with tetanus toxoid.
In human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals the amount of antibodies formed after vaccination with T-cell-dependent recall antigens such as tetanus toxoid is proportional to the peripheral blood CD4(+) T-lymphocyte counts. To investigate whether the immunoglobulin G (IgG) subclass distribution and avidity of the antibodies produced after vaccination are affected as well, we gave ...
